Flavorful, acidic, and spicy, these Spicy Jamaican Crockpot Wings deliver the heat of ingredients with a Caribbean flair right to your plate. Allspice, paprika, garlic, ginger, and thyme combine to create a delicious marinade for the wings that perfectly combines warm, smoky, and sweet flavors. An seductive harmony of sweet, sour, and fiery flavors is added with a dash of soy sauce, vinegar, orange juice, lime juice, and hot sauce.
These wings absorb all the strong flavors of the marinade while being cooked slowly in the crockpot, becoming juicy and tender. After slow-cooking them, you can broil them for a crispy finish as an added touch. These wings will have the ideal balance of spice and zest to keep everyone coming back for more, whether you’re throwing a party or seeking a filling supper.
Ingredients:
- One pound of chicken wings
- A spoonful of olive oil
- One tsp ground allspice
- One tsp paprika
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- One teaspoon of powdered onions
- One-half teaspoon of ground ginger
- 1/2 teaspoon of cinnamon
- One teaspoon of either fresh or dried thyme
- 1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper (adjust to desired heat level)
- 1 spoonful of brown sugar
- A quarter cup of soy sauce
- A quarter cup of white vinegar (or, for a little sweeter flavor, apple cider vinegar)
- 1/2 cup of orange juice, either fresh or in a bottle
- Lime juice, two tablespoons
- A quarter cup of ketchup
- One tablespoon of hot sauce (your preferred type, such as scotch bonnet)
- Season with salt and pepper
Instructions:
- Chicken Wings preparation: If the wings are complete, remove the drumettes from the flats; if you would like, you can leave them whole. Using paper towels, pat them dry to eliminate any remaining moisture.
- Mix the sauce: Put the cayenne pepper, brown sugar, soy sauce, vinegar, orange juice, lime juice, ketchup, hot sauce, ginger, cinnamon, thyme, allspice, paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, brown sugar, and cinnamon in a bowl. Mix until everything combines thoroughly.
- Optional: Sear the wings by heating olive oil in a big skillet over medium-high heat. Sear the wings for two to three minutes on each side, or until golden brown, if you want a crispier texture. It is optional, but this step will enhance the flavor.
- Transfer to Crockpot: Put the wings in the crockpot and cover them with the sauce, covering all of the wings.
- Cook the wings: Cover and cook for 4–5 hours on low or 2–3 hours on high, or until the wings are soft and cooked through.
- An optional step for crispy wings is to put them on a baking sheet and broil them for three to five minutes (monitor closely) to achieve a crispy finish.
- Serve: Serve with your preferred sides, like as rice, coleslaw, or grilled veggies, and garnish with fresh cilantro or green onions!
