  • One chopped onion.
  • One tablespoon of finely chopped garlic.
  • Three cups of heavy cream.
  • One fifteen-oz can of tomato sauce.
  • Two teaspoons of salt.
  • ½ teaspoon turmeric
  • One-teaspoons cayenne pepper.
  • Two and a half tablespoon garam masala.
  • 1 teaspoon of Fenugreek.
  • 1/2 tablespoon cumin.
  • Two pounds of skinless, boneless chicken thighs, chopped into bite-sized pieces. You may also use chicken breasts chopped into bite-sized pieces.
  • Half a cup of Greek yogurt.
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil.
  • Cooked rice, for serving.
  • Chopped fresh cilantro, for garnish.

 

Directions to Make Butter Chicken

  1. Gather all ingredients. Preheat the oven to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C).
  2. Over medium heat, melt two tablespoons of butter in a pan. Add onion and garlic, stir, and cook over low heat until onion turns a deep brown, 15 minutes or so.
  3. In the meantime, place a saucepan over medium-high heat and add the cream, tomato sauce, remaining butter, salt, cayenne pepper, and garam masala. Heat through to a simmer.
  4. After lowering the heat to medium-low, simmer for 30 minutes while covering and stirring occasionally. Add the caramelized onions and stir.
  5. Meanwhile, in a small bowl, add the Greek yogurt, garam masala, cumin, fenugreek, salt, and cayenne. Toss the chicken pieces in the mixture until covered, then spread out on a baking sheet.
  6. Next, bake the chicken for 12 to 15 minutes, or until the middle is no longer pink, in a preheated oven. Bake the chicken breasts for only 10 to 12 minutes if you are using them.
  7. Add the cooked chicken to the sauce and heat for 5 minutes before serving.
