Sweet & Spicy Molasses Glazed Drumsticks

Spicy Molasses Chicken Drumsticks are a delectably aromatic recipe that blends smokey spices and cayenne pepper with the rich, sweet taste of molasses. The drumsticks are marinated in a tangy and spicy glaze made from a flavorful mixture of molasses, soy sauce, apple cider vinegar, smoky paprika, garlic, onion, and ginger. The chicken’s robust flavors are preserved by baking it until the skin is brown and crispy after marinating. This results in a savory, spicy, and sweet balance that makes these drumsticks an enticing main course.

To give it a refreshing touch, garnish with fresh herbs like cilantro or green onions. These spicy molasses drumsticks go well with rice, roasted veggies, or a crisp salad and are perfect for any occasion.

Here is a tasty recipe for Spicy Molasses Chicken Drumsticks that combines savory ingredients, a little heat, and the sweetness of molasses together:

Ingredients:

  • Six to eight drumsticks of chicken (skin-on for added flavor)
  • Two tablespoons of olive oil
  • Three teaspoons of molasses
  • One spoonful of soy sauce
  • One tablespoon of apple cider vinegar
  • Two tablespoons of paprika smoked
  • One teaspoon of powdered garlic
  • Half a teaspoon of black pepper, ground
  • One teaspoon of powdered onion
  • Half a teaspoon of ground cayenne pepper
  • Half a teaspoon of salt and half a teaspoon of powdered ginger
  • Green onions or fresh cilantro, for garnish.

Directions:

  • Set the oven’s temperature to 400°F, or 200°C. Grease a baking sheet gently or line it with parchment paper.
  • Whisk together the molasses, soy sauce, olive oil, apple cider vinegar, smoked paprika, onion and garlic powders, cayenne and black peppers, salt, and ginger in a bowl. Stir thoroughly to blend.
  • Using paper towels, pat the chicken drumsticks dry.
  • Place the drumsticks in a big bowl or a sealable plastic bag. Pour the marinade over the chicken and toss to evenly coat. Allow it to marinate for at least 30 minutes, but ideally 1-2 hours for maximum flavor. To get the most flavor, marinate it overnight in the refrigerator.
  • Place the drumsticks in a single layer on the baking sheet that has been prepared.
  • Bake the chicken for 35 to 45 minutes in a preheated oven, turning it over halfway through. When the internal temperature of the chicken hits 165°F (75°C) and the skin is caramelized and crispy, the chicken is done.
  • Garnish with green onions or freshly cut cilantro, if you like. Serve the drumsticks alongside your preferred side dishes, such as rice, roasted vegetables, or a straightforward salad.
