Air fryer chicken nuggets vs cast iron chicken nuggets
Winner… air fryer chicken nuggets! (I bet if I used breast the cast iron would have been better)
Chicken thigh cut up, dunked in seasoned milk, and then shaken in flour. I used a bowl of flour at first, but quickly dumped that into a zip lock bag to shake around.
The thighs produced fat themselves and I sprayed with cooking spray, so they cooked very nicely. I did 6 min each side at 400. I got scared because the first batch came out light so I quickly put some in the cast iron. Luckily the air fryer ones seemed to darken a bit more as the oil dried. I added salt at the end (a bit too much on some, lessons learned).
The air fryer ones are the lighter color and they happened to be our favorites. Chicken thigh definitely crisps better than chicken breast in the air fryer.
Now I love my cast iron skillet, but the chicken thighs came out so well from the air fryer and less oily that they were more enjoyable. This is why the air fryer beat out the cast iron tonight, a rare win.
