Help: I tried to make my GGs (great grandma and inspiration for this account) tortillas, and they did not turn out like hers.

Any advice? Her tortillas were soft, fluffy, and foldable.

Recipe: 2 cups flour, 1tsp salt, 1tsp baking powder, 2 tablespoons vegetable shortening- mix by hand until crumbly, slowly add 3/4 cup warm water while kneading. Roll into 10 balls, gently brown on both sides over medium-high heat.

Are there steps I’m missing?
Not all of mine had air bubbles either.

I agree with @1776mae that’s its probably a gluten issue. I’d say roll/divide to balls then let it relax before flattening. Also, the pan may have been too hot if the issue was foldability. Ive found that to be true with corn ones sometimes. They look tasty though. Keep at it!

@sharing_meals I’ve used a recipe from @justataste. She mixes 4 C AP flour, 1.5 t salt, 1 2/3 C very hot water, and 1/4 C oil. She kneads this 10 times before separating into balls, pressing, and cooking. She emphasized very hot water.
    Good luck next time.
